Classroom Resources
Consider the traits that make up a responsible citizen. How different are these traits from those that we expect of a digital citizen? We expect our students to communicate in a clear and respectful manner in the more traditional forms of collaboration and engagement. These same expectations hold true in a digital world.
Our responsibility as educators is to understand how these traits transfer with the integration of technology, identify the traits within each learning opportunity, set clear expectations for the behaviors we expect from students, and model those behaviors in practical ways.
Family Engagement
Building a culture of responsible technology use requires a community. In a successful digital culture, parents and family members support the practices and behaviors in the home environment, and are open to communication from the teacher.
Begin by suggesting ways for parents to talk to students about responsible technology use, and by providing resources to support them as their students engage with technology.
